Remote fieldwork experiences are among the most memorable of any scientists’ career, yet they are often hard-won. The challenges posed in the deep field can range from site access, sampling permissions, camp logistics and the involvement of local people.

Three geologists from the Earth Science department — Tamarah King, Luke Mahoney and Matt Wood — will discuss the unique aspects of fieldwork across projects in three very different corners of the world.

Tamarah will present on her experience hunting for earthquakes with drones in Australia’s central deserts, while Luke will focus on his experience traversing the inhospitable fold belt in Papua New Guinea. Finally, Matt will discuss an extensive sampling campaign in the steep river valleys of the Bhutan Himalaya.
